Hello Loves!
In today's video, I will take you over to my parents house because it is time to harvest the tomatoes and jar some sauce for the winter! This is always a fun family activity that gets everyone involved! I would like to introduce to you my Nonna Giuseppina. I remember sitting in her kitchen as a young child and watching her cook! She would make vats of pasta to feed an army, and I would help her bread and fry some fresh garden vegetables that she would pick right from her own backyard. Summer always brings back the fondest memories of tending to the garden and using its fresh gifts to cook with family. Come join me and the famigilia, and see how we harvest our tomatoes, jar our sauce, and just enjoy being in the kitchen together, making a mess and laughing a lot! Bohemian Magic Studios Presents Witchin’ Kitchen | Strawberry Poundcake Recipe Hello Magickal Beings! This video was intended for last year’s Strawberry Moon Celebration (2017), where we had visited Alstede Farm in Chester, NJ to pick some strawberries. As most of you know, a majority of the recipes and footage I had taken last summer, had to be placed on the back burner as I planned my extremely detailed wedding day. However, fret not! None of that footage has been discarded or disregarded as scrap. I have instead decided to edit and upload the videos anyway, during their appropriate season, as bonus content. So I hope you enjoy these nonetheless, even if they’re a bit late 😉 Now without further adieu, here is a Strawberry Poundcake Recipe that I tried with the strawberries we had picked last strawberry moon. This recipe was a bit more involved than the Strawberry Fruit Leather Recipe that I posted last week! I would like to thank LoveFoodies.com for the recipe, it is one of the recipes I have pinned to my Strawberry Moon pinterest boards. The recipe I used is courtesy of www.LoveFoodies.com.
Ingredients: 3/4 cup or 175 g softened butter 1/4 cup or 60 ml milk 1 1/2 cups or 290 g regular sugar 3 eggs (lightly beaten) 9 oz or 250 g Fresh Strawberries, mashed 1 3/4 cups or 225 g Plain / All purpose flour (sieved) 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract You’ll also need a Kitchen Aid Mixer, and a greased baking loaf pan. Watch the video above for complete instructions! I hope you are able to try this recipe for this strawberry moon, as I hope to make it again this year to celebrate. I hope to keep this esbat tradition going throughout the years 🙂I hope you enjoyed hanging out with me and my little fairy friends. They definitely enjoyed the sweet treat we made today! The recipe is pretty straight forward, it only uses 3 ingredients! I would like to thank FIFTEEN SPATULAS for the recipe, it is one of the recipes I have pinned to my LITHA pinterest boards. Ingredients:
1 cup of Strawberries (hulled, cut stem tops off) 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice 3 tbsp sugar You’ll also need a blender, a baking sheet and some parchment paper. Now you’ll notice in the video that I had first attempted this recipe with all of the strawberries that I had, which was definitely more than one cup. After noticing that my mixture would not condense down, I realized that I did have to follow this recipe per 1 cup of strawberries. So I ended up making each sheet in one cup increments, to achieve the best results. I hope you are able to try this recipe for this strawberry moon, as I will be making it again this year to celebrate. How to Make Golden Milk (Recipe) and Other Witchy Cold Care Remedies Hello My Magickal Beings!! This video was filmed a few days after Thanksgiving in the midst of my horrible head cold. As crappy as I was feeling, I saw it as an opportunity to make this super informative video for any of you who may be currently nursing your own head cold as well. In this video, I will be showing you some of my favorite things that help comfort me during those days where I’m not feeling to great. Some of these products include some doTerra Essential Oils. As I mention in the video I AM a DoTerra Wellness Advocate, so I am so fortunate to have access to their amazing oils and other products, which provide me some comfort during my crappy days. Here are the Products in Today’s Video: On Guard Oil and Softgels Breathe Essential Oil Blend Breathe Vapor Stick Peppermint and Orage Lip balm If you are interested in ordering any of the following, you can here! I also do provide FREE essential oils classes for those interested in learning more about the oils and how to use them. For anyone who uses EOs, but not sure about how much you are supposed to be using, here is the Recommended Amounts. Here are links where you can buy my favorite common cold teas by Traditional Medicinals: (NOT affiliate links) Organic Throat Coat Gypsy Cold Care As for the Turkey Soup Recipe, if you are interested in that, maybe I can do a separate video, lol. Now let’s get to the magickal recipe I have decided to share in this video! GOLDEN MILKGolden milk is a Turmeric based latte, an Ayurvedic magickal elixir of sorts, which is said to support the immune system, mind and body. This is actually a NON-Dairy concoction, as it does NOT use actual milk from a cow. It is a blend of either coconut or almond milk, and contains oils, various spices, and obviously turmeric. There are many different ways to make it; I have come across a few floating around the internet, but this one is easy enough, and if you don’t have a certain ingredient on hand, you can always substitute it with something else. The most important thing is that you DO have your turmeric on hand. Some things to note:
After everything is added, you will want to stir your mixture on low heat for 5 minutes, or until all of the spices, oils, honey, & milk are evenly combined and it becomes bright yellow in color. Poor into your cup, and top with more cinnamon or nutmeg to garnish. I hope you enjoyed this recipe! For more information on this magickal elixir, I got the recipe here. Comments or Questions? WITCHIN’ KITCHEN BOOK REVIEW & RECIPE | CLOVE CHOCOLATE COOKIES FROM STELLA MIA BY ROSANNA CHIOFALO1/27/2017 Hello You Magickal Beings! Thanks so much once again for joining me in another episode of Witchin’ Kitchen! In this 2 part video series, I will be doing a book review paired with a recipe which was included at the end of the book. PART 1PART 1: I am reviewing Stella Mia, a Sicilian gypsy romance novel by Rosanna Chiofalo.
Amazon Book Synopsis:
Rosanna Chiofalo’s poignant, beautifully written novel evokes the stunning scenery of Sicily and the Aeolian Islands and tells of mothers and daughters, love and sacrifice–and the choices that resound across continents and through generations. Julia Parlatone doesn’t have much to remember her Italian mother by. A grapevine that Sarina planted still flourishes in the backyard of Julia’s childhood home in Astoria, Queens. And there’s a song, “Stella Mia,” she recalls her mother singing–my star, my star, you are the most beautiful star–until the day she left three-year-old Julia behind and returned to Italy for good. Now a happily married school teacher, Julia tries not to dwell on a past she can’t change or on a mother who chose to leave. But in an old trunk in the family basement, she discovers items that belonged to her mother–a song book, Tarot cards, a Sicilian folk costume–and a diary. Sarina writes unflinchingly of her harsh childhood and of a first, passionate love affair;of blissful months spent living in the enchanting coastal resort town of Taormina and the unspoiled Aeolian Islands north of Sicily as well as the reasons she came to New York. By the diary’s end, Julia knows she must track down her mother in Italy and piece together the rest of the complex, bittersweet truth–a journey that, for better or worse, will change her own life forever. *In this video I will kind of give you my opinions of the book, what I liked, what I didn’t, what I thought could have been changed to maybe make the book better, or even work as a fan fiction. Also, I am following a recipe from the book as well, which came with a few pages of Rosanna’s family recipes in the back. I thought I would try one of them, and include some of my favorite doTerra Essential Oils for taste and benefits!! PART 2Part 2: I will show you the recipe for Tetu Clove Scented Chocolate Cookies, from start to finish!
The book came with a few pages of her family recipes in the back, and I thought I would try one of them, and include some of my favorite doTerra Essential Oils for taste and benefits!! In this video I will show you how to do the recipe from SCRATCH, from start to finish!
I will also: * Teach you how to blanch almonds * Teach you how to make a sugar glaze * Touch on the benefits of Clove essential oil Pick up your copy here! (DISCLAIMER: This is an affiliate link) Here is the complete recipe from the book if any of the ingredients were unclear in the video. If you try the recipe and make a video, please post your link in the comments, I’d love to see your take on it! Tetu (Clove-Scented) Chocolate Cookies INGREDIENTS 1 cup blanched whole almonds 4 cups unbleached all purpose flour 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened ( I used earth balance vegan butter) 2 ounces (1/4 cup) unsweetened chocolate (I used milk choc) 1 cup milk 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 teaspoon ground cloves 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 egg, beaten lightly to blend Glaze 2 cups sugar 1 1/2 cups water 12 ounces (1.5 cups) chocolate ( again, I used milk choc) 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat over to 375 degrees. 2. Spread almonds on baking sheet and toast in oven for 20 min or until well browned. Let cool. 3. Grind almonds in a food processor/coffee grinder to form a coarse powder. 4. Transfer to large bowl, stir in the flour, set aside. 5. In medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter, chocolate, and milk, whisking until the butter is melted. 6. Whisk in the sugar, remove from heat, and let cool to lukewarm. 7. Whisk the cloves, baking soda, salt, vanilla, and egg into the mixture. 8. With a wooden spoon, stir the liquid ingredients into the mixture until combined. Cover the dough and chill for at least 1 hour until firm enough to handle. 9. Grease 2 baking sheets. 10. Pinch off a tablespoonful of the dough at a time, roll between the palms of your hands into a smooth ball, and arrange balls 2 inches apart on the baking sheets. 11. Bake the cookies for 15 minutes or until puffy but slightly soft in the center. Allow the cookies to cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan. MAKING THE GLAZE Meanwhile, make the glaze. In medium saucepan, bring the sugar and water to a boil, whisking constantly. Boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and whisk in chocolate until melted. Whisk in powdered sugar until smooth. While cookies are still warm, immerse them in glaze, a few at a time. Place them on a cooling rack over a baking sheet to catch the drips. It’s important that both the cookies and the glaze be warm so that some of the glaze soaks into the cookies. Cool on the rack. Makes about 3 dozen. BONUS TIP: *This recipe can turn into an all day process, so to save time, buy pre peeled almonds. * You can probably cut the glaze ingredients by half, because I had ALOT of glaze left over, even for 3 dozen cookies. Lavender Rose Cranberry Cornbread Recipe Hello You Magickal Beings! Thanks so much once again for joining me in another episode of Witchin’ Kitchen! Today I am following a Cornbread Recipe pretty closely, from Francesca Lia Block’s latest book “Fairies in the Kitchen” Cookbook. I did a review video on that book as well, which you can view HERE! I have made a few additions to her recipe, as a matter of fact… my recent visit to the Mad Lavender Farm (Vlog available to watch here!) has inspired me to get a bit more creative with the very basic recipe that I had used from that book. I thought it would be tons of fun to add some lavender buds, rose petals from my garden, and some dried cranberries to add a bit of tart! It is totally safe to use flowers in your food, as long as they are 100% organic, NOT from the florist, because those contain very harmful pesticides. It’s best to grow the flowers you use in your recipes, in your own garden, or pick them from a farm that doesn’t use pesticides either. Pick up your copy here! Witchin’ Kitchen | Homemade Tomato Sauce (Recipe) Hey you lovely little kitchen witches! Today I will be showing you a very simple recipe that I made with the lovely tomato that Adrienne Crombie of Mad Lavender Farm in Milford, NJ, had given me upon my visit a couple weekends ago! You can view the Vlog of my visit there HERE! The tomato started to soften quite a bit, so I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to use it, but upon further inspection after cutting it up, it was quite fine inside to purpose into a lovely and simple little tomato sauce, which is what I’ll be showing you how to make today! Hey, if it’s not moldy and doesn’t smell bad… then it’s fair game! As I mention in the video, Italians don’t waste food! Hahah! SO in this video I figured I’d take it back to my Sicilian roots a bit, and add some shrimp to the dish. THIS STEP IS ENTIRELY OPTIONAL! Not everyone likes seafood, and some people are even deathly allergic, so please just taylor this dish to your own personal dietary needs or restrictions! You do not have to add the shrimp! You can also add other things if you’d like, like zucchini, or eggplant… the veggie route is just fine! I just have a weakness for seafood as I also mention in the video… I grew up eating it a lot. The Mediterranean diet is one of the best diets there are. Sicilians tend to eat a lot from the sea, since it is in fact an island. They’re surrounded by the beautiful water and make use of the gifts that the water gives to them on a daily basis. Everything prepared in true Sicilian cuisine is fresh, usually picked from the garden or caught from the sea, that same day!
